How Did We Get into This Mess?

We Homo sapiens have hit a wall. We were doing great right up to the last couple hundred years. What happened? How have we come to be so precariously poised on the edge of lunacy? How is it that we refuse to see the bleakness of extinction slowly seeping into our businesses, communities, and families? Simply, we are not paying attention. We are, in fact, going against our very nature and fighting our own evolution. It is time, past time for us to transition into our higher calling, a third phase of human evolution free from deceit and disinformation, isolation, and destructive competition. Can we do it? Of course we can and it is easier than you might think.

For our ancient progenitors scrambling for survival was a daily affair. After millions of
years of evolution we one day became human. Some 50,000 years ago the light of sentience flickered into being and man became aware. We were as sleepwalkers waking disoriented in a land both strange and familiar. We arrived with only our genetic driven instincts for survival. For this first human harboring the flame of awareness life became more than mere survival.Through the development of language and complex social bonds we were able to amass knowledge that grew from generation to generation.

Now fast forward to the present where awareness has been subjugated by knowledge. The servant has become the master and all throughout the kingdom all sense of balance and harmony is lost. The once disoriented human poking at his world with the stick of awareness has transmuted into a goliath wielding knowledge like a two-edged sword. As Thomas Wolfe said, “You can never go home again.” Returning to the innocence and ignorance of our beginnings is not the answer. Nor can we continue to bull headlong into the future. There is a third option, a synthesis that longs for expression. It is a blending of the purity of the distant past with the progress of the present yielding a new day for humanity. Completion is at hand. A wholeness, more than the sum of its parts, waits with open arms to welcome home the weary human race. We have everything we need to cross over. The timbers of awareness and knowledge will build the bridge. We need only take the first step…
