Kazira Orphaned Children and Community Development
Kazira Orphanage is dedicated to nurturing and guiding orphans of the Lake Bunyonyi region to overcome the challenges of child labor, early marriage, extreme school dropouts and HIV/AIDS infections. Kazira’s goal is for each child to attain an education and become the decision makers of tomorrow. Kazira was founded by Charles Kukunda, himself an orphan, who overcame considerable challenges to graduate from college with a Bachelaor of Information and Communication Technology degree. He knows every child harbors a successful life inside and he is dedicated to helping each one reach their full potential.
Kazira sponsors more than 13 projects including Clean Water for All, Feed Kazira Kids, HIV/AIDS Prevention, and Women Micro-Finance. Supplying students with a daily meal has become an important part of this program. For many of these children it is the only meal they will get that day. Fundraising efforts continue for the building of a permanent school and support the Orphan Feeding program.
Some years ago, Martina heard about Charles’ selfless work and traveled to Uganda to meet with him, get to know the kids and get a feel for the needs of the orphanage. She absolutely fell in love with the Kazira children. While there she helped with the food program, did QE with the kids and teachers. She said that despite the major obstacles these little people have to overcome they are happy, enthusiastic, and loving. The Kazira kids have taken up a very warm place in Martina’s hart.
Every year Lucid Sea supports the Kazira Orphanage with school materials, holiday gifts and financial support for their most urgent needs. We donate $1.00 for each copy sold of the little gift book, Heal Your World, Heal Our World and $2.00 from every Martina and the Ogre children’s book sold.
